After Ashlynn's Chemo treatment on Friday we were aware that her bloods counts were boarder line for needing a blood transfusion. Saturday morning Ashlynn just did not seem like herself. She was very tired, and the time that she was awake she was very cranky. This was unfortunate because it was also her 1st Birthday! We had big plans to go and celebrate with her friends that share a birthday with her. Around 1pm we headed over to Kallie & Tj's party after Ashlynn had taken a nice long nap. I thought this would improve her mood, but she fussed all the way there, and was still fussy when we got there. After about a half hour of non stop crankiness I took her home. After talking to her Oncologist we decided that she needed to go to the hospital to be seen.

After 2 hours in the car we got settled into our room in the CHaD. Ashlynn was beyond cranky at this point. The team accessed her port and got some blood to send to the lab right away. Her counts were low, but still boarder line at this point. The Doctor also discovered she had Thrush in her mouth, and a yeasty diaper rash. These are both common side effects of the chemo she received during her first treatments. We decided to hole off on the transfusion for a little longer. By Sunday morning her counts had dropped a little more. At this point we decided it was time to go ahead with the transfusion. As soon as the transfusion started Ashlynn started perking up. This made me feel like we had made the right decision! We stayed over Sunday night as well, just to make sure Ashlynn did not get a fever, or any other side effects from the transfusion. Monday around lurch time Ashlynn was discharged and we headed home. She is feeling much better now. The diaper rash and the Thrush are both healing, and she is getting her normal appetite back. I'm sure over the next few days she will be back to her wild and crazy self. (I will post a few pictures from our stay later- just wanted to get the update out to everyone)
